Managing Growth Responsibly

Local Context: Smithville has grown ~10% since 2020. The Domain Industrial Park is under development at HWY 71 and SH 95. New residents are arriving daily.

My Position: Growth is good when it is guided. Residents should have a seat at the table when development decisions are made. Transparency means you see the plans before the bulldozers arrive.

Action: Require developer town halls for major zoning changes.

Preserving Smithville's Character

Local Context: We are a "Film Friendly" city, a Cultural District, and a "Music Friendly" community, part of the First Street Initiative.

My Position: Our history and culture are economic assets, not obstacles. Smart growth means building the future without demolishing what makes Smithville worth living in.

Action: Support downtown revitalization while protecting historical corridors.

Infrastructure and Services

Local Context: Southeast Drainage Improvements are ongoing, and solid waste services recently transitioned to Texas Disposal Systems.

My Position: Transparent budgeting so residents know exactly where infrastructure dollars go. Accessible communication when projects affect your street or your commute.

Action: Create a public, easy-to-read "Project Dashboard" for all city infrastructure work.

Supporting Local Business

Local Context: Smithville's Main Street economy and the Chamber of Commerce are the lifeblood of our town.

My Position: A council member who shows up, listens to business owners, and fights for policies that help small businesses thrive, not just big developers.

Action: Streamline permitting for local small businesses to open and expand faster.

Property Taxes & Fiscal Responsibility

Local Context: With affordability continuing to be a major concern, keeping costs reasonable is crucial for families.

My Position: Every dollar the city spends should be justified in plain language. Transparency is a budget line you can read and understand clearly.

Action: Publish single-page, plain-English budget summaries every quarter.

Parks, Quality of Life, and Community

Local Context: Our 11 city parks, Riverbend Park, and proximity to state parks are incredible assets.

My Position: Accessible public spaces are what make Smithville feel like home. Maintaining and improving them is not optional; it's essential for our families.

Action: Secure grant funding specifically for local park maintenance and improvements.

Let's talk about the issues.
